Foreign Direct Investment in Bulgaria Reaches Some EUR 260 Mln in January, Central Bank Data Show
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bulgaria amounted to EUR 259.8 million in January 2026, according to data from the Bulgarian National Bank.
The net inflow of FDI increased by EUR 12.2 million, or 4.9% year-on-year. By comparison, in January 2025 the net inflow was also positive, reaching EUR 247.6 million, based on revised data. For the first month of 2026, FDI is estimated at 0.2% of the country’s projected gross domestic product (GDP).
The central bank said that FDI data are subject to revision, which may alter the current figures.
In January 2026, the net flow of foreign investment in real estate in Bulgaria was negative at EUR 0.3 million, compared with a negative net flow of EUR 1 million in January 2025.
According to preliminary data, the net flow of direct investment abroad amounted to EUR 14.4 million (0.01% of GDP) in January 2026, compared with EUR 100.1 million (0.1% of GDP) in the same period a year earlier.
The Bulgarian National Bank publishes monthly data on net FDI flows, covering all transactions carried out during the reporting period. The net flow is calculated in accordance with the directional principle of investment.
