On 20 May 2026, the official session of the GS1 GENERAL ASSEMBLY was held in Warsaw and was devoted to the following topic: “Vision in action: Leadership that builds the future.” Representatives of 120 GS1 National Organisations from the whole world participated in the event.
The meeting conducted a review of the progress in implementing “Vision 2030” — GS1’s five-year strategy for creating trusted data, interoperability and closer cooperation between industry and GS1 with its Representation offices in the separate countries.
The main highlights included the accelerated implementation of 2D barcodes and other innovative data media, the development of the GS1 Platform of Registers and the option to verify the legitimacy of the identification numbers (GTIN, GLN, SSCC, etc.) through Verified by GS1, the support for fulfilling regulatory requirements such as digital product passports, reporting sustainability and traceability, as well as the role of GS1 standards in the future for sharing authentic and reliable data and in support of the artificial intelligence solutions when identifying products and companies.
During the meeting, the priorities for the financial year 2026/2027 were discussed, as well as the Global Office’s operational and financial Plan, along with key management and business solutions in support of “Vision 2030”.
The official meeting was followed by holding a solemn anniversary Ceremony devoted to the contribution of the GS1 National Organisations. Among the honoured guests was GS1 Bulgaria, too, which received a plaque on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of its formation. The award was accepted by Tsvetan Simeonov, President of BCCI and of GS1 Bulgaria, and Tsveta Bratanova, Executive Director of GS1 Bulgaria. The honour was conferred by Renaud de Barbuat, Executive Director of GS1, and Mark Batenic, Chairman of IGA Inc. (Independent Grocers Alliance) and of GS1.
