SMEs need fair and contestable digital markets – and the EU lags behind its own ambitions

Eurochambres co-authored a joint statement on the occasion of the Commission publishing its first report on the Digital Markets Act (DMA) revision on 28 April. The DMA is an important regulatory tool that should help establish fair and contestable digital markets by containing so-called gatekeeper companies.

The joint statement criticised the fact that the goals of the DMA have not yet been achieved and that SMEs still face substantial challenges in their day-to-day business operations. It called for faster, more predictable, transparent, vigorous, and timely enforcement, while maintaining the core principles, in particular those ensuring fair and non-discriminatory access to essential platform services.
