During the discussion, the Foreign Minister emphasized on the project for expansion of the Chiren Gas Storage Site in Bulgaria, which is significant for the whole region. It is among the first 4 projects that Bulgaria has proposed for implementation within the initiative.

Ekaterina Zaharieva emphasized on the need for increasing the target capital of the Investment Fund to be able to meet the needs of the region and expressed Bulgaria’s ambition to push the implementation agenda forward during the informal presidency.

The discussion focused on the need for coordination between the fund investment policy and EU cohesion instruments and programs, also using funding from the European Investment Bank and attracting private investment from the US, Germany, the UK, Japan, the Republic of Korea and other potential investors.
