Key aspects of economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Brazil were discussed at a meeting at the BCCI

The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted an online meeting on the topic of “Business Cooperation between Bulgaria and Brazil”.

Dr. Vasil Todorov, Vice President of the BCCI, welcomed the participants, stating that the Chamber follows its mission and initiated the event to support bilateral economic cooperation. “Our country’s economic relations with Brazil are determined by bilateral agreements and the EU-Mercosur agreement,” said Todorov.

The Vice President of the BCCI noted that bilateral trade between Bulgaria and Brazil has been growing steadily over the past 10 years, amounting to 615 million USD in 2024.

Evgenia Ivanova, Acting Head of Mission of the Embassy of Bulgaria in Brazil, also participated in the event. She gave an overview of the current economic situation in Brazil. Brazil is suffering enormously from the high import tariffs imposed by the US in 2025. Ways are being sought to intensify economic ties with the EU to compensate for the changed trade flows.

Ambassador Ivanova shared that there are opportunities to increase trade between Bulgaria and Brazil, but there are also obstacles, such as high import duties, which increase the value of some European goods and bring them closer to luxury goods.

Gergana Dimitrova, an expert at the Latin America IPR SME Helpdesk, presented detailed information on intellectual property, including its legal framework, economic development and the challenges faced by European companies in Latin America.

The event also included a useful discussion with the participants on topics related to promoting bilateral economic relations between Bulgaria and Brazil.
