The Association of Bulgarian Employers' Organizations (ABEO) expresses its firm support for the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Eurozone as of January 1, 2026

Concerned by the recent announcements of a potential referendum on the adoption of the euro, the ABEO reaffirms its unwavering support for Bulgaria’s Eurozone membership from January 1st, 2026. This is mentioned in a letter to the President - Rumen Radev, the Speaker of the Parliament - Natalia Kiselova, and the Prime Minister - Rosen Zhelyazkov.

In the letter, the employers recall that Bulgaria has made consistent and unconditional efforts toward full membership in the European Union — from its stated Negotiating Position and the Additional Information on Chapter 11 “Economic and Monetary Union” from 2001, through its Pre-Accession Economic Programmes for the periods 2002–2005 and 2004–2007, to its reaffirmed commitment to adopt the single European currency via the Accession Treaty, effective as of January 1, 2007. The employers emphasize that completing the process of Bulgaria’s European integration through full membership in the Economic and Monetary Union will ensure accelerated income growth and faster real convergence in purchasing power toward average European levels.

“We are confident that, following the consistent and consolidated efforts of all previous administrations, the Bulgarian institutions, social partners, and the non-governmental sector, in anticipation of the convergence reports of the European Central Bank and the European Commission regarding our entry into the Eurozone, you will continue to meet the high national expectations. With a clear understanding of our national priorities, we are committed to working together for the prosperity of our society, avoiding actions that dissipate public energy and create conditions for division, tension, and mistrust among the Bulgarian people,” the employers emphasize.

The members of the Association of Bulgarian Employers' Organizations (ABEO), representing the economic activities across the entire spectrum of Bulgaria’s economy, generate over 86% of the country’s gross value added and employ 82% of the workforce nationwide.
