The expansion of trade and economic ties between Bulgaria and Indonesia was the focus of talks between the newly appointed Bulgarian Trade Commissioner for Indonesia Daniel Dobrev and Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) President Tsvetan Simeonov.
The discussion was joined by Chargé d'Affaires at the Indonesian Embassy in Sofia Irvan Buchari, Embassy Counsellor Endy Tobing and BCCI Management Board member Ivan Kashukeev.
During the meeting, the current economic situation in Indonesia, the leading sectors of the country's economy, and upcoming events were discussed.
Irvan Buchari made a statement that meetings are being considered to be held in Sofia and Varna regarding the import of labor from Indonesia. He emphasized that while Indonesia is not widely recognized in providing workers, two of its ministries are actively implementing policies aimed at sending human capital abroad.
Tsvetan Simeonov noted that the topic is highly relevant and that Bulgarian institutions are undertaking various measures to facilitate the import of foreign labor.
The leading sectors of the Indonesian economy and key imported goods into Bulgaria were also discussed — such as coffee, palm oil, textiles, seafood, copper, and copper ores — along with the need to promote these products more actively on the Bulgarian market.
Further discussion included the global trade policies, the protectionist measures adopted by the United States, the importance of concluding a free trade agreement with the European Union, and other related matters.
