Current information on the energy sector in the country was presented at the first meeting of the Energy Board
Minister of Economy and Energy Vassil Shtonov presented current information on the energy sector in the country at the first meeting of the Energy Board, led by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva.
“The main task of the Energy Board is to stabilize the energy sector and ensure predictability in the sector. The Board’s work should be effective, we should see problems for what they really are and discuss even unconventional solutions”, Shtonov said.
According to the Minister, all interested parties – the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation, electricity producers, associations - must reach consensus to improve the sector. “The problems will not be solved only by increasing the price of electricity”, Minister Vassil Shtonov pointed out. According to him, raising the price should be consistent with the effect on the public interest. In the first half of 2014 the regulated market lost BGN 360 million.
In order to improve the condition of the Bulgarian energy sector, an analysis of investment will be carried out, as large investments lead to economically unbearable prices.
All participants in the Energy Board agreed on the need to provide objective information to the public and rely on the opinion of experts in the sector.
