Industrial production fell 0.2% month on month and 4.8% year on year in May 2026, National Statistical Institute data showed on July 10.
NSI data show that in April the index fell by 4.6% month on month and by 4.1% year on year.
Monthly Changes
In May 2026, compared with April 2026, output fell by 0.8% in manufacturing. It increased by 9.2% in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply and by 1.7% in mining and quarrying. The more substantial declines in manufacturing were recorded in the manufacture of textiles, except apparel, down 8.8%; printing and reproduction of recorded media, down 7.5%; and the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, down 6.9%.
Manufacturing output increased by 7.2% in the manufacture of electrical equipment, by 6.8% in the manufacture of wood and wood products, except furniture, and by 6.5% in the manufacture of other transport equipment.
Annual Changes
On an annual basis, calendar-adjusted industrial production fell by 33% in mining and quarrying and by 3.9% in manufacturing, while output in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply increased by 8.8%. Within manufacturing, substantial year-on-year declines were recorded in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, down 32.1%; the tanning and dressing of leather and the manufacture of footwear and other leather products, excluding fur, down 31.8%; and the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, down 23.7%.
Output increased by 23.8% in the manufacture of electrical equipment and by 15.7% in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations.
Construction Output Falls 0.8% in May
Construction output fell 0.8% month on month but rose 5.6% year on year in May 2026, National Statistical Institute data showed on Friday.
In April, the index fell by 0.1% month on month and rose by 6.6% year on year, NSI data showed.
Monthly Changes
In May 2026, output fell from the previous month by 1.2% in civil engineering, 0.9% in building construction and 0.3% in specialized construction activities.
Annual Changes
In May 2026, compared with the same month of 2025, output increased by 9.6% in building construction, 3.4% in specialized construction activities and 2.7% in civil engineering.
