Bulgaria's exports of goods to the EU increased by 8.5% in the period January–April compared with the same period of 2025, amounting to EUR 9,854.2 million, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on July 10.
Bulgaria's main trade partners were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and France, which accounted for 67.7% of the exports to the EU Member States.
In the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the most notable growth was recorded in the section "Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" (52.4%), while the most notable fall was reported in the section "Miscellaneous manufactured articles" (21.7%).
In April, Bulgaria's exports to the EU increased by 11.3% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to EUR 2,494.8 million.
According to the NSI data, imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU in the period January–April increased by 5.4% compared with the same period of 2025 and amounted to EUR 10,589.9 million (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for goods imported from Germany, Romania, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands.
In the imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth was recorded in the section "Machinery and transport equipment" (10.0%). The most notable fall was reported in the section "Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" (21.5%).
In April, Bulgaria's imports from the EU grew by 1.4% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year and reached EUR 2,573.9 million.
Bulgaria's foreign trade balance with the EU (export FOB - import CIF) was negative in the period January–April, amounting to EUR 735.7 million, the NSI said.
