Bulgaria Records 0.9% Deflation in June, Annual Inflation Slows Down to 5.4%


Annual inflation in Bulgaria slowed to 5.4% in June, according to National Statistical Institute (NSI) data published on July 15. This represents a decrease of 1.5 percentage points compared with the previous month of May, when annual inflation stood at 6.9%. The decline in inflation followed recorded deflation of 0.9% in June.

The last time negative monthly inflation was recorded was in September 2025, when deflation of 0.8% was registered, according to NSI data.

Inflation since the beginning of the year amounts to 2.9%, while average annual inflation for the period July 2025 - June 2026 compared with July 2024 - June 2025 was 5.1%.

Accumulated inflation, measured by the national Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 12.8% over the last three years (June 2026 compared with June 2023) and 43.3% over the last five years (June 2026 compared with June 2021).

In June 2026, prices of goods and services declined in the following consumer groups: Transport - down 3.3%; Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages - down 1.9%; Clothing and Footwear - down 1.1%; Recreation, Sport and Culture - down 1%; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance - down 0.5%; and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco - down 0.1%.

A significant decline in prices was observed for seasonal vegetables, namely cucumbers, down 25.8%; other vegetables (courgettes and aubergines), down 25.7%; peppers, down 20.9%; tomatoes, down 20.2%; cabbage, down 15%; and potatoes, down 10.5%.

Prices of goods and services increased in the following consumer groups in June this year: Restaurants and Accommodation Services - up 1.5%; Education - up 0.5%; Health - up 0.2%; Personal Care, Social Protection and Miscellaneous Goods and Services - up 0.2%; and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels - up 0.1%.
