Investment growth in Bulgaria with over 50% in 2020


The net flow of foreign direct investment in Bulgaria for the period from January to July 2020 amounted to EUR 1.407 billion, increasing by EUR 495 million (54.2%) compared to the same period of the previous year.

This is shown by the preliminary data of the Bulgarian National Bank.

In July 2020 alone, the flow was positive and amounted to EUR 958.8 million compared to a positive flow of EUR 400 million in July 2019.

The net flow of foreign investment in real estate is negative at EUR 0.2 million, with a positive net flow of EUR 2.9 million for January - July 2019. According to preliminary data, the article Reinvestment of profit (showing the share of foreign investors) in the current profit or loss of the company based on accounting data for the financial result) is positive and amounts to EUR 331.7 milliоn, against a positive value of EUR 243.7 million for January - July 2019.

The net flow under the sub-item Debt instruments (the change in the net liabilities between the companies with foreign participation and the direct foreign investors on financial, bond and trade credits) is positive and amounts to EUR 957.5 million, with a positive value of EUR 1152.9 million for January - July 2019

The largest net flows of direct investment in the country for January - July 2020 are from the Netherlands (EUR 192.8 million), Russia (EUR 121.1 million) and Hungary (EUR 107.2 million).
