Bulgaria and Armenia with interest in common cross-border corridors

Bulgaria and Armenia with interest in the construction of common cross-border corridors. This was discussed by the transport ministers of both countries Rossen Jeliazkov and Hakob Arshakyan. Co-operation in the development of the Multimodal Corridor of the Black Sea - Persian Gulf has emerged as a major focus in the talks between the two Ministers at the Eighth Meeting of the Bulgarian-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

The corridor will create opportunities for efficient and reliable freight traffic between the Middle East and Central and Eastern Europe. The project will contribute to utilizing the growing trade potential in both regions and serving transit traffic from and to the Far East.

Minister Zhelyazkov stressed that the joint forum held yesterday showed the favorable conditions for business in both countries. Trends at the macroeconomic level in Bulgaria and Armenia are on the upside, which should be used in the best way by the business. He pointed out as an opportunity the diversification of the structure of exports and imports, which has been relatively uniform in recent years. In his words, the purpose of such meetings is to deepen investment cooperation and trade between countries. As a guarantee, he identified the good investment climate in Armenia as well as the good environment that Bulgaria provides as a member state of the European Union.

During the meeting, the opportunities for transport and communication connectivity were considered. Among the other topics of the talks were the intensification of the interactions between the specialized trade promotion structures and the cooperation with the entrepreneurial associations in order to facilitate the establishment of business contacts between companies as well as the intensification of the participation in fairs and exhibitions in the territories of the two countries.

The next Commission session is expected to take place in 2021, with the ambition of both countries to significantly improve the agreed parameters by then.

The Bulgarian Delegation in Yerevan also includes the Deputy Minister of Economy Alexander Manolev, the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency Boyko Takov, as well as experts from the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the Ministry of the Regional Development and Public Works, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Defense and the Bulgarian Investment Agency.
