Bulgaria Ranks 36th in Allianz Global Wealth Ranking

Bulgaria ranks 36th globally in 2025 by net financial assets per capita, at EUR 14,790, according to the 17th edition of the Allianz Global Wealth Report, published on September 29. The country slipped one place from 35th in the previous edition.

The report covers 57 countries and defines net financial assets as gross financial assets less household liabilities; real estate is not included.

Bulgarian households' gross financial assets increased by 10% in 2025 to around EUR 136.5 billion, a slight slowdown from growth of 11.2% in 2024. The increase was just below the 11.2% recorded for Eastern Europe but above the global average of 8.6%.

Deposits recorded the strongest growth, rising by 17.3%, ahead of insurance and pension assets, which increased by 15.8%. Securities grew by just 2.4%, a sharp slowdown from 5.8% in 2024 and one of the weakest rates among the countries covered. Romania was the only country to record an outright decline in securities.

Despite the slower growth, securities still accounted for 35.4% of Bulgarian household portfolios, close to the Eastern European average of 35.9%. According to the report, this largely reflected modest valuation gains rather than new purchases.

Fresh savings increased by 10% to EUR 11.9 billion. Deposits absorbed 73.9% of the total, the highest share among the Eastern European countries covered, while insurance and pensions accounted for 20.8% and securities for just 2.1%.

Bulgarian households were net sellers of equities, with net sales of EUR 0.2 billion. Adjusted for inflation, financial assets increased by 6.3% in real terms in 2025 and were 18.6% higher than in 2019. This was below the 24.5% increase recorded for Eastern Europe over the same period.
