In September 2026, the total business climate indicator decreased by 1.3 percentage points compared with the previous month, from 16.6% to 15.3%, with declines recorded in construction, retail trade and the service sector, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said here on September 30. A slight improvement was registered in industry.
In August, the indicator remained approximately at its July level. At that time, declines were recorded in industry, construction and retail trade, while an improvement was reported in the service sector, according to NSI data.
The composite indicator “business climate in industry” increased by 0.6 percentage points in September, due to improved assessments by industrial entrepreneurs of the present business situation of their enterprises.
In construction, the indicator decreased by 4.7 percentage points as a result of worsened assessments and expectations among construction entrepreneurs about the business situation of their enterprises.
In retail trade, the indicator decreased by 0.8 percentage points due to retailers’ negative assessments and expectations regarding the business situation of their enterprises.
In the service sector, the indicator decreased by 1.6 percentage points as a result of managers’ more cautious expectations about the business situation of their enterprises over the next six months.
