Bulgaria can attract U.S. investments in energy sector. This will probably be discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Economy and Energy Dragomir Stoynev with U.S. companies General Electric and Westinghouse, which are planned within the minister's visit to the U.S.
"We have to ensure the stability of the energy system in the long term, we need to look for decades ahead. This means we have to have a very clear analysis of what capacity will be required in Bulgaria after 20 years and will have to focus our efforts to diversify energy supplies", Stoynev said in the National Security Council at the White House.
The Minister stressed that Bulgaria's main effort is to stabilize the financial sector and state-owned companies in the energy sector - factors that will open up the possibility of a partnership with potential investors, including American firms.
U.S. energy giant General Electric has expressed interest in building new powers at Bulgaria's Martisa Iztok TPS, and in contributing to the construction of the South Stream natural gas pipeline, revealed Bulgarian Economy and Energy Minister Dragomir Stoynev.
