Minister Jeliazkov calls on EC to protect transport traffic and normal functioning of the "green corridors" in Europe

"I call for the urgent protection of the free flow of transport traffic and for maintaining the normal functioning of the „green corridors”, stated the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov in a letter addressed to the EU Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean. The reason is the information on unilaterally applied measures and restrictions on drivers imposed by Member States. They lead to difficulties in the carriage of goods by road within the European Union. As a result, transport companies face problems in their attempts to continue their activity normally because of the difficulties in passing significant trade routes in Europe.

"I strongly believe that the measures should remain proportionate and coordinated in order to avoid disruptions in transport traffic. In addition, the continuation of decisive coordinated actions in order to ensure free transport flow will significantly reduce the harmful impact on the European road transport sector and the European economy", said Minister Jeliazkov.

It is also noted in the letter to the European Commissioner for Transport that the free movement of drivers is necessary for the continuity of freight traffic. "I believe that without taking swift and adequate action at EU level to address these issues, we are taking a step back to the pandemic conditions of March 2020", added the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.
